I really don't think so. They aren't the Presidents of the countries or anything. Their voice definitely matters but probably not a whole lot compared to the military and all.

It is quite obvious that the kid doesn't know much about international relations and the role that ambassadors play in that arena. Ambassadors do a lot in communication within all the nations on this planet. As long as we have what is called diplomatic relations with a country our ambassador is extremely vital in maintaining those relations in good standing.
Yes, ambassadors do play a very important role in maintaining peace throughout the world by keeping those lines of communication open, especially during trying times.
