Are political parties starting to diminish?

Yea, the number of Independents are on the rise. People want their own identity and not be bought into all the all-for-one and one-for-all crap.
Yeah everything is falling apart.
It's really not falling apart, the system is adapting to what it should have been for a long time. People do not want to be shoved into a two party system. Too many people have cross-ideals from both parties! There are pro-lifers who still think stem cell research is a wonderful thing. Nationalized healthcare proponents who have strong ties to the military. The point is that the American culture is beginning to reassert itself slowly through a third party! I think its a refreshing and overdue change!
The only problem is that the existing parties will fight like hell, dirty and below the belt, to keep relevent. Look at what the GOP has done with the Tea Party nonsense and all the inflaming of racist undertones and such. Both parties are corrupt, morally devoid cespools of powerhungry cretens. Hopefully–because I seriously doubt the tenacity and intestinal fortitude of Americans–we will move passed these broken cruches and finally become a society of people willing to think critically about issues and vote accordingly, not simply along party lines out of fear and tradition.
As I have said many times before, I am a proponent of doing away with the political party system and making candidates run on their own merits.
According to the talking heads the Dems got their heads served up on a platter yesterday. I, for one, do not think that is the case.
If either party really wants the majority of Americans in their boat, then they all have to give up this corruption of the Marxist movement that has disguised itself as "progressive" since the early 1900's.
If not, then look out for the looming "third" party to emerge – unless the majority of Americans start demanding that candidates stick to their individual merits and dump the party system altogether.
Just my not-so-humble opinion. B)
Perhaps you are right. But I am just so sick and fed up with everything related to politics. It is all one big joke.
Political parties are gathering money from the citizens, making them believe that they are actually part of a party where they all agree on the same issues, then the heads of these parties are throwing money to get all these other fake politicians who aren't going to produce any good for our country.
This question seems random since no event which could diminish political parties has taken place recently.
