Are sweatshops just as bad as slavery?

Yea I believe it is. I can't believe sweatshops are still even around.
I don't know about that, its a tough subject to breach.
What's so hard about it really? Slaves were paid, very little. The only difference between slaves back then and sweatshop workers now is that there is no ownership of individuals.
Only those desperate enough to work in one can tell you that answer. For those of us who have never been in that dire of a financial situation, well we just cannot fathom that sort of desperation, can we?
Just my not-so-humble opinion.
Yea but it's not their fault that they have to work that hard for that much money. The corporations should be setting good prices.
No way. People chose to work and they're paid. So they're paid less than we think they should be, so what? This is more about people being afraid of outsourcing. Here, watch this video:

Yea, but they don't even have the option sometimes because these companies all set the wages that low.
So it's better for them to starve than to be 'exploited.' Nobody is forcing them to work there, but if that's the only option to feed themselves then it's "voluntary slavery" which I don't think exists) or death. They have a choice and they benefit from having that choice. how is that slavery?
Well, I agree that it is not directly slavery, but it's a business loophole and it is unethical. They have to have options. Slaves many years ago didn't have any option at all, it was to work or die, and whose to say this is not sort of the same situation?
The population of the world is increasing rapidly. If you give people the basic necessities then they continue to have more children. Who is responsible for paying for these new people? How are we supposed to provide for more and more people as we have diminishing space and fresh water? People can NOT be guaranteed everything by birthright. There just isn't enough to go around.
i think they can deal with it
