I'm honestly so sick of all this crap that I don't care if anyone receives any benefits, including anything for myself. Its all a joke. Not to mention all the people that try to take advantage of the system.
All it is is a ploy to "buy" votes for the Progressive (formerly Democratic) Party candidates who are up for re-election this year.
I ain't falling for it and neither should you.
There are jobs out there, maybe not the high paying job you want, but for right now any kind of a paycheck will do – and that is MUCH better than being on the government pittance dole!
Not a question of whether they deserve it or not. Ideally they'd instead simply fund their own unemployment insurance or save money for the event of unemployment rather than receive taxpayer funded periods of unemployment.
Large sums of people on such assistance have few incentives to find new employment until their benefits are nearly expended or have run out. Were that a privately maintained method of insurance against such calamities, people might take more aggressive measures to find sources of income or training.
I can see it now. Congress tries to stretch unemployment benefits with the new move-back-in-with-your-parents tax incentive.
It is very enticing though.
