No, they have them certainly. Morality provides social incentives which influence supply and demand for various products. And even these supposedly vile "profit motives" provide moral incentives in and of themselves to provide things to others that they would wish to have.
I happen to agree with STS (shock (oh lighten up, STS, its only humor)).
However, I would add the word "need" in his last sentence. Why? Those who provide goods or services that the rest of us need or want are in business in order to make a living, and if you are in business to make a living then you need to make some sort of profit in order to meet your own needs or wants. That is not an immoral thing, that is providing for yourself.
People kill for money though.
No people kill because it is something they do, whether or not they get paid for it (which is actually very rare, Hollywood is wrong) has little to do with profit motivations of society.
im not necessarily saying that i believe that they don't have morals, but i could see how they could act immorally especially if they run by the philosophy saying the "ends justify the means."
I would say that under normal conditions, peoples needs are among their wants. If they do not desire it, then it probably isn't a need. One other problem is that many people perceive profits relating to selling "needs" as immoral, hence we get price gouging laws and rent controls which create considerable economic damage rather than actually benefiting anyone.
If you leave everything as a "want" rather than a "need", nobody notices. Living in an apartment in NYC by yourself is best defined as a "want". It is not a need. Shelter is a need, but there are many ways to supply that need without a rent controlled apartment which drives down the value of new construction and thus increases the cost of housing for everyone else.
People Kill for food too.
When a free transaction takes place, meaning free markets with competition, you get two thank you's. The person selling says it, and so does the buyer, who loses there?
Profit is good, that is the trophy for your work. Do you think a farmer in Texas is up at 4 AM because they really want that New Yorker to enjoy his NY Strip Steak, no the profit lead him to contribute in a way socialism never could have. Profit is Moral, government regulations making money is not profit, that is fraud.
The debate should not be if profit is immoral, but debating the difference of Profit VS Fraud.
