Yes I believe they do. When you have games like Grand Theft Auto and numerous others that are so available and display horrible methods of violence. Sometimes when you are at a young age, things like this can strongly influence what you think is right and wrong.
Absolutely not. Granted, violent games are probably not the best things for children but that simply means that parents should not let their children play them not that they must be taken off the market and not made available to responsible adults. If you do a good job parenting, no game is going to be able to undo that. The problem is parents hate telling their children no. Tough. People who display poor or even violent behavior have usually done so long before they ever found the game. To blame the game is a cop out.
Granted, the violent games that my husband and adult sons play are often WWII games or other things like that. We won't let games like Grand Theft Auto in our house. If people revolted against such disgusting games and didn't allow their kids to actually buy them, they would be off the market rather quickly anyway. Don't give me this, well I didn't know what kind of game it was when he bought it. Do your job as a parent and research it first.
Yea, that is true. You have to be like 19-20 to actually block most of the stuff out. 19-20 is when you start making decisions on your own and have already learned pretty much what you needed to know on how to act.
Jury is out on this one. Depends on the game and the child. There are plenty of great thinking games out there so you can't just label them all as "video games are bad"
I agree with you Sal.
You can't rely on parenting in some situations. Some parents aren't fit for the job. When kids play these games, they imitate what they see in it. It doesn't necessarily mean that they are going to kill someone or steal a car, but when they are young, they will develop bullying tactics towards other children and show abusive behavior.
They do? I haven't run out and stolen any cars or shot any people. Nor did I show abusive behavior.
The causal chain isn't clear whether it is "abusive, violent kid enjoys violent video games" or "violent video games create abusive violent kids". It's far more likely to be the former given the numbers of people playing any random shooter online at any given moment.
I also agree. It's fine if older children play these games or adults because they've already formed their general perception of reality, but when you're younger you are very impressionable. There's a reason we have ratings and a reason we try to promote certain games / music / movies / books over others for our children. Parent's just want the means to keep offensive content out of their homes, and then the people who make that content blame the parents because it's easy and that way they're off the hook
Thats why its rated MATURE
if parents would just do their job…..
To a certain extent that's true but you can't be with your friends 24/7. A lot of parents have restrictions and guidelines for their children but you don't know what your children are doing in someone elses homes. And those parents aren't required to call you and check to make sure it's okay. So even if you've checked out every game on the market, made sure the games you have in your home are acceptable, etc your child is still at risk because they still have access to those games one way or another. Video games are dangerous and I think we can see that in our culture today. This is one of the most violent generations, outside of war generations who were fighting for something, that I've seen or heard of. Childrens preoccupation with violence is scary and it's everywhere. I agree parents have to take responsibility but so should the gaming companies. Whether they acknowledge or admit it it's a video game therefore it's being marketed to children, however discreetly.
You could say that about anything. When both parents have to work full time and advertisers pay big money to specifically target kids, it's not a fair fight.
i agree with sal children should not be playing these violent video games it messes with there head and it affects their grades AND HOW THEY ARWE ACTING TOWARDS THEIR PEERS
i have seen no evidence that children that play violent video game make children turn violent. i dont reallybelieve it makes a difference. i sometime turn the TV on and the "bugs bunny and tweety show" is on. THAT HAS MORE VIOLENCE THAN ALOT OF THE VIDEO GAMES I KNOW.
Grand Theft Auto is so damn addicting game. I play 8 hours a day of GTA.:*;
the latest version of Grand Theft Auto have more detail on its graphics, nicely done.*’`
i used to play Grand Theft Auto a lot but i kind of got busy these days so i dont play it anymore`,*
Grand Theft Auto is an addictive game but really not suited for the younger kids”*,
In my opion I don’t think video games are violent.I have a 15yr old and 17yr old that is always playing with violent video games. And not ones have I had trouble with them. Other than they don’t like for me to interrupt will playing. My kids see this violent games educating. It keeps them out of trouble to where there not on the streets. And it helps them think twice on the choices they make in life. By watching what there play.Violence is all over the world. We don’t need to play violent video games to become violent. We become violent cause that’s what we choice.
One thing that I want to say is most parents do their jod. But sometimes it the children friends that have the games becuae those children parents let them get the games and sometimes parents don't know. Violent does not just come from games, it's also movies, tv shows, music, internet, and environment.
There is no doubt in my mind that if a young child, who is still developing their moral compass, were to be exposed to an M rated game that there would be negative setbacks to them because if while you are learning what is right and wrong you are shooting police officers, trafficking drugs, banging prostitutes, and buying guns then you might not have the greatest set of morals or thoughts. But that is where the parents come in. If a parent is just going to stand idle and not tell their kids that what they are doing is not morally right then they have no right to complain about video games tainting their children. The child most likely did not buy the M rated game themselves so it had to make its way into the house another way which is most likely the parent. The video game developers did not make M rated games for little kids, it is intended for mature audiences.
With certain people it can. I have played violent video games but i know how to keep my cool. Other people that cant keep their violence under control might have a weaker state of mind and obviously need to have their video games taken away. I just think that life would be better without video games all together. Even though i am a video game fanatic myself to a certain extent, I really wish that some super natural force or something like that would get rid of my interest of video games because it does no good for me to be inside on a perfectly nice day playing with a piece of plastic staring at a virtual world shooting fictional characters from probably someone in china.
I honestly dont think violent video games make someone violent unless they already are or have had a poor upbringing.
ok first off who are you to say that video games cause violent behavior its not the video games that cause the violence its the person playing it. only very aggresive people who play violent video games have violent behavior, you need to start doing research before accusing video games of causing violent behavior
no just the person
i think its the person playing the games that cause the violence not the games.
i agree with jcdenton100.
