I believe it destroy lives depending on how early of an age a person is introduced to it. When you are a young kid like Michael Jackson was and introduced to the spotlight, I think the criticisms and the attention has a big impact on your personality in a negative way.
Chico and the Man spawned the fame of one young Hispanic comedian. The sudden thrust to the top of the fame world was more than he could handle. He killed himself.
Marylin Manroe, Janis Joplin, Jimmy Hendriks, Mama Cass Elliot. The list could go on for reams.
Does that answer your question?
Just my not-so-humble opinion. B)
It's all up to the individual, really. Can the person handle fame and fortune, always being in the public eye, always being looked to to uphold a certain imge and attitude? And money, let's talk about that. I believe money destroys lives for those who are not famous. just imagine how baad it is for those who are. They have seemingly infinite amounts of it ( though, in reality, most of what a celebrity makes gets divied out to film companies, agents, lawyers and thier agents). Life as a celebrity, I imagine, can be hell on the individual. Remember, there is more to being a celebrity than what we all see. And, yes, that can destroy thier lives.
Fame isn't what destroys lives, it's the pressure that comes with it. Of course there is the fact that many famous people have everything they could wish for, and im not saying that a lot of the time they don't have it easy, they apparently do, or we would for one hear about it from the press, and two not as many people would wish for fortune and fame. What detroys lives is the papparazi that constantly follows them, how would anyone feel having someone on your tail contantly waiting for photo's of you, trying to nab an image to sell to the local press.
Some people go through the same things movie stars do, but movie star's mistakes are publicized for all the world to see. Fame might cause a person to fall apart, but it might have happened to the person anyway if they were not famous.
