Luck is what you make it.
To "Take a chance" is a Human trait that makes us Human.
Even legal dice cannot be predicted, only the surface they are rolled onto can be suspect.
Or so I have been told. B)
I'm sure you've had some experiences where you've lucked out, knowing the right people at the right time to help you solve some of your problems. Am I right?
That's not luck. That's networking.
Neither.
Its called (in my day, at least) good old fashioned police work. (aka – "Gumshoeing")
In all actuality, good police work is being at the right place at the right time (NOT beating someone into submission to get a "confession", but listening to not only what people are saying but to what they are not saying). It ain't like it is portrayed in the movies and on television.
I think the robot's comment could be taken to imply life problems. Not merely your work related objects. In which case the term "networking" applies to knowing people in one's life (and not to… luck?, whatever that means).
Come to think of it… "networking" would also apply to good police work. Things like: finding and honing informants, talking to witnesses, etc. It's not necessary that you try to find a way to disagree with a comment that you apparently didn't understand.
