MTV is still around. You both are just thinking about the days of TRL with Carson Daily. They still play the videos and the building in Times Square is still there with cheering fans.
Yes, I do believe it is ruining music, because they are being very selective with their picks.
Yes, but anybody "selective" gets their music through itunes or pandora at this point (as examples). I cannot recall the last time a mainstream media outlet enticed me to like a particular artist or their music.

What is presented this day and age as "Music" isn't even close to what real music is.
You want music? Then listen to Mozart and the other real masters of real music.
Anything else is just noise.
And that is my not-so-humble opinion.

On the serious side, I challenge you to sit in a quiet room and listen to Mozart with your eyes closed. You can actually hear the music speak to you and describe what it was written about.
I know you won't do that, but I just had to challenge you anyway . . .

I agree with papdawg. Unless you've listened to and experienced Mozart's "Don Giovanni" or Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" or Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture" (I could go on all day…), you haven't listened to true music.
MTV attempts to lure in younger audiences with pointless, mindless garbage. Whether it's "ruining music", I don't know…But it is certainly not promoting true musical beauty.
Because they rarely play videos anymore, I don't even consider MTV a major player in the music industry. Luckily, there are artist websites, MySpace, You Tube, etc. so that people can access music that hasn't made it to the mainstream.
As for what constitutes "true" music, that's open to interpretation. A person can never have heard a note of classical and still say that they've heard true music.

woaaah mtv still plays music? this is life changing!
even though i havent tried that and i am a teenager i can already tell that i would enjoy it but music today is still good and a lot of songs have good lyrical meaning to them. u probably arent looking around good enough or giving it a chance.. theres present day music for everyone in my opinion… the mainstream pop songs are garbage and they are probably why music today has such a bad reputation in your mind.. instead of seeing mozart bethoven and as real music just look at it as a good genre.. go find some more good genres
