NATO is a much better organization than the UN.
NATO was created during the Cold War era as a 'Western' alliance against its Soviet counterpart, the Warsaw Pact. The total collapse of the Soviet Union and consequently the Warsaw Pact happened more than 2 decades ago, leaving NATO as the largest remaining military alliance on the planet. There really is no point in maintaining the alliance now that it's purpose has been served, as the enemy it was created to defend against no longer exists.
