Well, when it comes to any form of punishment there isn't too much humane about it. Solitary confinement is the most extreme degree of punishment, with the exception of the death penalty.
I actually believe solitary confinement is a lot worse than the death penalty. Living alone like that, never having contact with any forms of life makes you go crazy.
It depends on how long you are talking about. Some people would rather prefer to be alone than to actually be with other prisoners.

I would like to see child molesters put out with the rest of the general prison population.
Solitary confinement is sometimes the only way to reach a particular prisoner.
Nothing inhumane about it at all as far as I am concerned because I have seen what people do to each other. Those in prison deserve to be treated inhumanely – just like they treat their victims.
Just my not-so-humble opinion.
But again, that is basically saying two wrongs make it right, correct?
It is a humane way to treat someone who has been convicted of a crime serious enough of it and has continued to cause trouble while serving his punishment out in jail. Come on, we have to be able to punish bad people somehow. I don't tend to feel sorry for the man who murdered someone in cold blood because he has to sit all alone in the dark for awhile. Guess he should have not taken that person's life huh?
Yeah that is exactly how people who consider themselves to be "normal" think. I agree with you.
Yet at the same time, thinking about putting a person through something like that is still hard to swallow, even if it is a person who made very bad decisions.
Oh, and you would treat that perpetrator of a heinous crime with dignity and respect because . . . why?
If you cannot understand that criminals just do not care about anything or anyone but themselves then you will be a perpetual victim for the rest of your life.

hmm i really see no need for prisons…..my tax money pays to clothe feed and shelter these ppl call me heart less but i believe if you kill anyone hurt a child or anything more than theft we should shoot them! so no solitary confinement is far from inhumane in my opinion. as for the not so serious crimes …work it out of them!
I agree with you. Prison isnt even affective on most criminals anyway, they have created a new type of society in prison that isnt ran by the prison guards anymore. I think harsher punishments that would scare the crap out of any convict should be enforced. Like sending them to Alcatraz, that will put some sense into their minds! They shouldnt let any of the criminals be aloud to communicate with one another because isnt the whole reason of prison to keep them from society? Meaning other people? They create gangs and have prison fights and they kill in the prison anyway, so why let them communicate? Most of them are just gonna go back out there and do what they did best…..
