No, I don't believe it is. Life imprisonment does pretty much the same thing. I don't see why we have to kill the person if he has to spend the rest of his life in jail.
Well the dead person can't commit the crime anymore so I have to say yes! Let us remember they took the life of an INNOCENT human being which makes them guilty. They lose all rights, and often one of those rights is the right to life. It wasn't taken away, they gave it up the moment they committed the crime.
Yea but by killing the criminal, isn't that just as bad as killing an innocent person? He deserves to be in jail for the rest of his life, not by executing him.
The death penalty should NEVER be used as a deterrent for the simple reason that the criminal really could care less what the penalty for his/her crime is, nor do they care about their victim or victims.
The death penalty should only be used to rid society of the type of criminal who has committed his/her heinous crime that just cannot be condoned by the general public;
Murder, Forceable Rape, Child Molestation, etc. fit those categories. The same with killing a pregnant mother to cut her fetus from her body.
It is much less taxing on the public who must pay for the care and feeding of a life-long prisoner, to just execute him/her and be done with them.
Personally, i believe a serial murderer should get the death penalty. This assures us that the guy is just looking to kill someone for satisfaction. Putting to death those that have killed one person may seem a little harsh, because maybe the guy did it in self-defense but no one believed him, etc. So many factors can come into place with a single kill.
Not really. Most murders are "passion" killings – either a cheated spouse, lover, etc.
Like the guy who killed his wife and unborn child just so he could pursue another woman.
Then there are the dope deals "gone wrong" where the user kills the supplier cause the user has no more money to pay for his/her dope.
It just don't make sense to keep those fools around at the taxpayors expense for 50 to 60 years living the life of reilly in those luxury hotels we designate as prisons!
Mostly what you said, papadawg. In some ways, I understand the need for the death penalty under the circumstances you mention. On the other hand, I think it's harsher punishment to let the bastards rot in jail all their lives with no possibility of parole.
Lori, the death penalty costs more for taxpayers then keeping criminals in jail. the appeals process takes approximately 13-15 years, and bogs down the legal system: taxpayers still foot the bill for incarceration during during years of litigation. From a financial perspective, it's more cost effective to let them rot in prison.
No it's not as bad because they are NOT innocent
The death penalty is not automatically applied to every murder case and is often only used in instances such as serial murders or killing a law enforcement or important person or where other heinous crimes were committed at the time.
I am not advocating it always be used but that it be allowed to be if a jury or judge so decides it is fitting for the crime.
I'm not the one that mentioned cost. I care more about justice than I do about cost but do believe the death penalty would more effective if the judgment was enacted more swiftly. However, I do understand the importance of having an effective appeals process.
effective at what? it's not a deterrent, it's a punishment. The idea of having someone who took a life without care live out their own life is absurd. It not only costs millions of dollars, but it isn't even remotely fair. you take a life intentionally for selfish reasons you deserve to die.
if we kill them they cant commit another crime and its less money…i say we kill them or work them depending on the crime prisons are just a nice free ride vacation for ppl :@
The death penalty is not effective. If someone is sentenced to a life in prison, they can always be released if proven innocent later on. But if someone is murdered and sentenced to death, the punishment is irreversible, even if they are innocent.
I assume that death penalty advocates know human resurrection.
the death sentence is only effective in some countries but in other countries its only life imprisonment
The killer cocktale is used a large number of times. Its just a stupid idea to think that killing someone would make other people turn their life around. I dont know how to say this but once your dead you dont feel pain, you dont feel anything at all so why would you be afraid to die? If something is going to be effective then the best thing would be to torture someone that has done something wrong but Cruel and Unusual punishment is against the constitution. Killing someone is like saying we dont need you in this world anymore because you are of no use to society and you are too dangerous to be alive. Its an insult to God.
