I don't see how that would be a good idea.
Just what are you asking here? In case anyone hasn't noticed, there is a PRIVATE ambulance company called AMR (American Medical Response) that operates a good number of ambulance services throughout this nation. There is also Life Flight, Mercy Air and a few others who operate the PRIVATE air ambulance (helicopters and fixed wing) services all over this country.
Are you asking that fire departments should no longer operate their ambulance and rescue services?
Your question for this debate needs some clarification.
Just my not-so-humble opinion.
I think we know that there are private ambulances. The question is asking if we should allow it.
Yea. I think we should have both.
To diversify.
It doesn't make sense.
It kind of has to if two of us understood it so far.
Are you saying that a law should be passed PROHIBITING private emergency medical services?
If only government provides emergency medical services, then the element of competition is lost. With competition you get better service, without it you lose that excellence.
When only government provides a single service, you lose. Period.
Can either of you understand that?
If it's already a private enterprise, then it doesn't need to be privatized. I believe you should rephrase the question to say something like "should ambulances be strictly publicly operated" or some such. Because it's actually pretty confusing to ask whether they should be "privatized" when they already are, in many cases, large regional companies that operate privately but are paid by local or state governments (contractors). Hospitals often own their own ambulances in addition to this. While hospitals are often a government monopoly in an area of a city, they are in fact, often privately owned and operated.
