Should anyone profit off of someone’s health?

Nope. That's why Obama is going to change the healthcare system. It's not right.
This is going to be another really loud one I can tell. I think there is a method wherein everyone can have healthcare, and noone will "profit" over it. I'm not saying that those involved with healthcare should get salaries that are competitive and fair. But it isn't fair that we are the greatest nation on this planet and we don't have healthcare for every citizen.
And before anyone jumps directly on to me and calls the word socialist I DON'T have a solution to this problem. I have healthcare through my work, and it's good health care. I don't think I'm overpaying for it right now, and I'm very satisfied with my current level of privatized care.
That said, people without health care should have SOMETHING, how can we as Americans look at our fellow countrymen and say "No, you don't have a good enough job, or a job at all therefore your cancer will go untreated"
Worst case example? yes. Do I need socialized healthcare, no. Do I think everyone should have some type of care when they are sick. yes… does that really really make me a socialist?
So, profit for healthcare providers no. Allow them to continue business in an ethical manner, absolutely.
Jared,
PLEASE get this through your thick skull young man . . . Obama does NOT care about your health, my health, or anyones health! All Obama cares about is OBAMA!
Ya gotta stop drinking the cool-aid, kid, its laced with POISON!
I'll try not to yell so loud.
I'll say this as quietly as I can . . . . .
There are those who choose not to get health insurance because they either are so young that they think they are bullet proof, or they can afford to pay for their health care out of pocket as they need it – that is what my Father-in-law used to call "fiscally responsible individuals".
As for the so-called "homeless", well most of them choose to be that way for one reason or another. Some are just wanderers(we called them hobo's when I was a kid), some are alcoholics and others are drug addicts. These people do not want health insurance and will never seek medical advice for any reason.
The vast majority of people who do not have health insurance just happen to be illegal aliens – not from another planet, but from another country.
Now, sir, I will give you the information that Obama and his Marxist cronies are most conveniently not telling you.
Since sometime during the mid-to-late nineteen eighties, ANYONE in this country (legally here or not) can go to any hospital emergency room and get free(yuppers, I said F-R-E-E) treatment for any malady that requires a doctors attention. Say "Thank You President Reagan".
So, why do we need "Health Care Reform"? So our money hungry and very corrupt politicians can suck up more of your hard earned money in a health care tax – DO ANY OF YOU NOT UNDERSTAND THIS SIMPLE BUT QUIET EXPLANATION?
If not, please RUN, do not walk, to your nearest Psychiatrist and GET YOUR HEAD SHRUNK!!!!!
Can't tell that I used to be a USMC DI, can you?
Was that quiet enough? ^_^ B)
This is SUCH a pointed question meant to illicit emotional anti-capitalist responses. All i'm going to say is, I don't have any problem with the ideas of health or profit.
Sigh . . . I wrote such a neat answer to this one and now it isn't here . . . Maybe it was eaten by the poltergeist. :$
It's up now.
See I thought I knew a jar head when I spoke to one!!! At first I thought you were some Army ground pounder, but no army man sticks to arguments the way you do!
I do indeed know that anyone can walk into a hospital and get medical care, its very true and it's a wonderful thing. The problem comes in when someone enters the hospital with say, non-hodgkins lymphoma, Huntington-Korea, Alzeihmers, Parkinsons disease, any of the other horrid diseases that require long term care, expensive medications, physical therapy…. etc etc.
Reagans acts do not cover those instances where long term care is needed. It covers people with no insurance who have injuries in need of medical triage… knife wounds, gunshots, etc.
Sure if you have a heart attack and you have no insurance you can go to the hospital and they'll take care of you…. but they won't take care of you the same way they'll take care of me with my private CIGNA insurance….
Here's my big question Gunny Sgt… doesn't every AMERICAN deserve at least the same level of medical treatment as me?
I don't think anyone cares about anyone.
All I know is that my mother just informed me that she had to leave the pharmacy today without pain medication she needs because it isn't covered by her insurance. The medicine would cost her $600. She can barely walk. Needless to say she left the pharmacy in way more pain than she expected upon walking in.
Something is wrong here…
Everyone on this planet deserves excellent medical care.
However, the difference between deserving and getting is the individual and how much responsibility that individual takes for him/her self.
You, like I, have planned out and worked for the health insurance that we now have for ourselves and our families. Therein lies the crux. If we, who planned our lives to take care of ourselves and our families, have to pay extra to provide not only for ourselves and our families but for every lazy sonnagun who ain't working to have the SAME coverage that we have . . . Do you see where I am going with this? Do you get it yet?
WHY WORK FOR IT WHEN IT IS GIVEN OUT FOR FREE?
Then NO ONE WILL WORK for it and then the cost to taxpayers will go through the roof! The current proposal is at $1.2 T-R-I-L-L-I-O-N dollars . . . and that is just for starters!
Check out what Medicare originally cost and what it actually is today – and because of the ballooning costs Medicare is planning some drastic cuts to services in the near future, so what do you think will happen when Obama(doesn't)Care gets out of control?
Ever see the movie "Soylent Green"?
Yep, I thought it might be some computer glitch or something like that . . . I get em on my home `puter all the time. B)
P.S. – On top of being a retired Marine, I am an ex-cop also.
Can you say OOOORRRRAAHHHH! with flashing lights and sirens?
Gotta love this life!
B)
Just curious PT, is your mother on Medicare? I thought that medicare, and most insurance policies covered "generic" medicines which are far less expensive than the "brand name" medicines.
Perhaps you can look into that for her. Believe me when I say that I hope I have helped a little bit, at least. That was my sincere intent upon writing this.
This coming from a retired cop and Marine who is probably enjoying our Social Security system that everyone is paying into? If we didn't have that set up, then the elderly would stand no chance of surviving. Do you have any idea how effective that system is? Now what if we instituted a system just like that so not everyone goes broke when they get the flu?
You're probably saying this because you have a squeaky-clean health record. A typical American who has only had his mild case of coughs and fevers. No one is invincible, and many realize that when they are in the hospital, fighting for their life, and for their financial security.
pt447, this is exactly what I'm trying to describe to every single person who reads this site. No one is invincible, and this is why you can't profit off of someone's health.
