Why reward the dregs of the Earth with a starring role in their own television show?
I'd rather people watch actual trials instead of Judge Judy personally.
Considering that a) they're sort of boring and procedural, and b) "the dregs of the Earth" include some of our prosecutors (and some defence lawyers) in my opinion, I'd be fine with having that all out in the open. It makes for better television than most reality TV shows, especially considering the stakes are often conviction of innocent people or freedom of guilty ones.
Since not all people who are accused and go to a trial are guilty of anything or should be treated as guilty of anything (ie, their crimes are harmless), and we have a constitutional presumption of innocence that is often blithely ignored, I'm fine with trials going out in the open air. We could see plainly which prosecutors are abusive of the powers we grant them and which are useful.
If they did, then people might actually learn something about the legal system. We can't have that!
To publicly embarrass them.
Yep, that sure worked on O.J. Simpson . . .
