I believe it should be required in a different form. I just took defensive driving. It's 6 hours long and completely ridiculous. Most of the material they were talking about wasn't even sinking in. I know in New Jersey that the defensive driving is online, but in New York it has to be in person, which is ridiculous. I would learn a lot more online than in a hot building with 50 other people watching videos from the 1980s.
I believe there should be a required online defensive driving course, one that is only an hour or two long every couple of years. If people want the insurance discount, go for the 6 hour class in-person
In general, American drivers are very poorly trained.
I spent a lot of time in the country of Japan during my time in the USMC. Back then (that was over 40 years ago) Japanese civilians were required to attend a professional driving school that was a year long BEFORE they could even apply for a driving license. Then in order to get a car they had to prove financial responsibility to not only pay for the car but for any and all damage that they may cause with that car. Because of that, all drivers in Japan were automatically considered professional drivers and if they ever were in a traffic collision it was automatically considered their fault.
I certainly would like to see something like that here in the USA.
OBTW – I do not recall ever seeing a teenage driver when I was in Japan.
I've taken a defensive driving class before with the intention of lowering my insurance costs. Every other person in my class was there for point reduction…Some even had revoked licenses. Even worse, they didn't seem to care about their careless driving. In hopes of preventing such a mentality, I do think defensive driving should be required…multiple times in one's driving lifetime.
Watever Jared person is sick!
An educator coming from a professional Driving Lesson in Kingston. is trained to recognise any weaknesses maybe you have on your driving. Luckily they are experienced in coaching website visitors to pass their test. The fact is, together with practical tips, a driving instructor will offer advice for the theory and hazard perception tests.
