I think everyone should. However, the problem with today is that not everyone could afford it. The younger generation especially. It's not pennies we pay-out in premiums every month. If you can afford it, good for you, but not everyone could, so that's why there has to be some sort of non-profit insurance government-run program.
Everyone should have health coverage paid for with some of their own dollars if for no other reason than to prevent use of the system without contributions. This does not necessarily mean insurance as a universal health coverage would use tax dollars. With everyone paying in, regardless of their current health, costs for any individual are reduced. As well, because everyone pays up front, fraud can be reduced by the simple fact that individuals cannot play games to get free coverage since they are not directly involved in the payment process. That would save everyone money.
I agree with you. It would be the same exact thing as insurance programs now, but will not be for-profit, which will eliminate shareholders' little sneaky tactics to screw us all over.
Wow. No wonder this country is in as much trouble as it is!
Here is an idea for you, PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY!
You should be personally responsible for your own health and welfare, so get off your lazy carcasses and EARN enough money to pay for your own health insurance, house rent/payment, food and clothing!
I just do not understand why you blithering idiots want your government to babysit you from the time you are born till you die! Don't you understand that if you get government provided health care, the government will decide what level of health care (if any) that you will receive?
YOU are responsible for YOU . . . NOT your government!
just my not-so-humble opinion. B)
People not having coverage is one the reasons why costs increase. That being said the government has no right to dictate that you buy anything. The system that is used by Whole Foods is a good system. My insurance is similiar. I have an affordable high deductible plan. It makes me more aware of the costs so I use my healthcare dollars more wisely. I go to the doctor if I need to and if I have a major illness it will be paid for. It works for my family very well. If you just give insurance to everyone the system will become overwhelmed. The more responsible the person is for the costs, the more they will use the money effectively.
Okay, so everyone right now who lost their jobs and can't find one is their personal responsibility to make sure they can pay the premium each month so that they won't get into more debt if they get sick? It's easy for someone who is retired and might-be getting money from the government for his military service.
Still, not everyone is as blesses as you are to have a job that can help pay for their benefits.
WAKE UP!
If YOU do not take care of yourself, NO ONE ELSE WILL!
YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU!
If you lost your job, then go get another one. Why is that so difficult for you to understand?
I used to tell my employers "I was looking for a job when I found this one, and I can always look for another job." If an employer did not treat me the way I wanted to be treated I found another job. If I can do that, then so can you or anyone else in this world!
Understand this – Life is not easy, nor was it meant to be. No one owes you anything, not a job, health insurance, NOTHING! The only things you get in life are what you are willing to work for. If you ain't willing to work for it, then you won't get it.
I served in the military for 20 years, went to war and was wounded in a firefight and still completed my 20 years. Upon retiring from the military I went to work for a fire department, then a police department. I worked until I reached age 62. I draw social security that I paid into all my working life, out of that I pay for Medicare part B. I pay for TRICARE which is the health insurance that retired military people can get and I pay for that out of my military retired pay. I worked for it, and I pay for it. I get nothing free, I pay my own way and always have.
So quit your whining and get out there and WORK for whatever you want!
A high deductible plan doesn't need to be paid for by your employer. And in fact, often isn't (mine isn't). I don't think she was describing a situation where her job was paying for her benefits as a result.
You are deprived by living in NYC sometimes since such things are mandated out of existence up your way.
wow maybe you need to take a step back and broaden your horizons a little. There are many many people out there working their a** off to try to make ends meet and because health care is so expensive aren't able to afford it. And in the current economic situation it's not so easy to just go out and get a new job whenever you want. I know of a lot of people who have been laid off and have applied for 100s of jobs but because the pool of applicants is so huge they have not had any luck. So, I think you need to consider other people's situations and know that not everyone has had it as easy as you where they can just go get a new job whenever they feel like it. I'm glad you're enjoying the social security I've been paying in to and will probably never get to use.
Did you know that it's actually the work of the federal government that ties your health insurance to our employer?

it's because of this that private insurance outside of employer provided plans is impossible to find. The closest you can get is an HSA (Health Savings Account) where the whole advantage of the plan is that you get to keep the money even if you lose your job and it gets around government taxation (it's what I have.)
"One of the methods used by statists to destroy capitalism consists in establishing controls that tie a given industry hand and foot, making it unable to solve its problems, then declaring that freedom has failed and stronger controls are necessary."

I don't want no one to take care of me. I work and just give most of my check to some one . Insurance, childcare, retirement, social security, state tax, Fed tax, long term, short term life ins on the job life with car ins. life with another company, just in case I loose my job or I no longer have the car.. After all that, each year the Insurance come up with a new way to get money. I work at a hospital and right now they are spending to compete with other hospital. When I say spending to complete making the hospital more beautiful. Can you imagine what I have left @11.33 an hour. I don't do entertainment. I been wearing the same clothe for the last 10 years. I just find peace in Thanking God I an living. What I want is some control on the big dog keep all that is made when the little one make the money for them. Spread the joy. My job try to keep you from using Ins. It is of to control it because some people will go crazy. I say if I pay for it than it mine. I tired of making some else rich!!!!!! I am 50 years old and I have been working since I was 15 years old I hope when ever I can retire. It will be better. Right now the system is a mess!!!
I think everybody should have health insurance. Disease can happen with everyone, and we should be protected or ready for it.
remember to always get some health insurance as this can save your life in the future;,:
Great article, I just passed this onto a co-worker who was doing a little analysis on this. And he in fact bought me breakfast because I discovered it for him.

If possible, as you gain expertise, would you mind updating your blog with more details? It is very helpful for me. Two thumb up for this blog post!
