Although sex crimes are becoming increasingly worse in France, to castrate someone is going way beyond the realm of being humane.
Why can't you just put them in prison for longer terms?
Why not chemically castrate them. They have taken something from a person that cannot be returned. They have violated them in hideous unspeakable ways, they should absolutely be punished with castration. This isn't like stealing a car, or robbing a bank. This isn't even inhumane compared to the crime they commited. This is merely removing their ability to continue harming people. Longer prison sentences aren't going to stop people who don't believe they will get caught again.
That's messed up. Why not just put them in a prison sentence? They go to jail for years. Years of your life for some illegal sex acts is enough. Castration? Some people are innocent who are convicted guilty. The law is not always right.
Repeat sex offenders are not rehabitable. Castration doesn't do the job because it is never about having sex – it is about the total control of the victim, sex is the tool to obtain the control and prove to the victim that the offender is in complete control. Even after repeated lengthy prison terms, sex offenders return to offend again – more often than not to end up killing their victims.
Castration is not the answer. Longer prison sentences is not the answer. Execution is the answer.
Just my not-so-humble opinion. B)
Automatic life sentences work wonders for repeat violent offenses. Unless they are raping people in prison, but that's another issue I guess.
So I take it that you are for the death penalty.
You got it, Sal!
How many prisons can we afford to build?
In the state of California they are going to release over 50,000 inmates because they are going broke and cannot afford to house and feed them – almost half are repeat sex offenders who will undoubtedly offend again.
Explain THAT to the new victims!

They really are going to release over 50,000 inmates because they are going broke? or are they going to transfer them?
Idk, it's not right. You shouldn't take someone's life away. Instead you should just let them sit and think about what they did for their own good for the rest of their life.
Nope, Jared. They do not have any remorse. None what so ever! They just sit and gloat and wait for what is happening in California – a free pass to get out and do it some more.
I sure wish you progressives could see what my eyes have seen during those many years as a cop. You wouldn't think leniency was so good, nope, you wouldn't.
But then, I do not think that you would have the stomach for it. That is why I now take blood pressure medications.
Hey, Jared and Sal . . . I got an idea! Why don't you guys go down to your local Police Department and apply for a ride along? What that entails is that you ride along in a patrol car for one eight hour shift and get to see, up close and personal, just what it is that we cops experiance on a "normal" workday – Make sure you ask for a unit with a dash-cam with sound so that you can get a copy (edited, of course, to remove the names and faces of the accused perps so that their rights are not violated before they go to trial) so that occaisionally you can replay them when you think cops are just out there to harass innocent folks.
^_^
Why don't you ever Google anything? Check it out!
I read an AP story that said they were going to release them on parole because the state just doesn't have the money now to house and feed them!
Haven't you ever heard that California handed out IOU's to state employees earlier this year because it just didn't have the money to pay them? The state had to borrow a few billion dollars from the FED when the banks started refusing the IOU's.
Oh, and FYI – New York State is next to go broke since your governor said that it will be broke by 01/01/2010. That was reported by the AP last week. Google it.
Those were non-violent criminals though (most for marijuana use.) No rapists were let go.
NY State bailed themselves out of the 1/1/10 bankruptcy. They pushed all the debt off onto NYC so Bloomberg can take care of it. So now the state has a budget in the black, and NYC is cutting teachers to keep from going bankrupt…. thanks Gov. Paterson, ass.
Not according to my friends in the parole depatment!
And, FYI – there ain't no such thing as a "non-violent" criminal . . . Not even Bernie Madoff.
Drug users will even sell their own babies to get the drug of their choice – Just like alcoholics.
Not to sound facitious, but since NY state is one of the most liberal (socialist) states in the country, isn't that the approved socialist way of doing things? "Spreading the wealth around" is what His Royal Pain In The Arse Barack Hussein Obama advocates – Taxing the "rich" to bailout the poor, and since NYC is the "richest" city in the state . . . And that is how the country is now being run, just like New York state. Just a suggestion; Why don't a bunch of New Yorkers get together and demand that NYC cut all those wasteful welfare programs in order to fund the educational programs so that the people can get an education and get real jobs and improve the states as well as the city's economy?

So I'm supposed to take the word of your friend in the parole department as evidence?
And the idea of there being no non-violent criminals shows a bit of a Statist bias on your part.
I fully agree with papadawg
I don't feel that Castration is the answer because
a) What about women sex offenders? (I know they are not nearly as common, but still what are you going to do, plug up their vagina indefinitely?)
b) I don't want to know how horribly painful it would be, although this is a very minor concern because I think repeat sex offenders don't deserve leniency in the way of punishment. However, Castration is plainly not humane.
c)*Restate Papadawg's first statement here*

Really Papadawg, you think it’s about control? You sure that it’s not some guy being horny. Or some guy that felt loenly all his life? Or a vengeanceful boyfriend? I think that guys already have the feeling of control down by the time their out of high school.
