No. It is a huge problem across the country and the world, bringing nothing good to the surface. Not to even mention the moral boundaries that it crosses as well.
I even wonder how many cheating husbands use prostitutes to "help out" their own marriage. It is simply a bad situation for all involved, but of course it will never go away because sex sells in this society.
The only reason why it's probably not legal is because the government wouldn't be able to make money off of it since it's a cash-based business most of the time.
Yes, I believe prostitution should be legalized. Why? Simply because by legalizing it we would be able to control STD's a little more effectively.
Having worked my entire adult life in law enforcement, I have seen first hand the dangers of street-walkers and the diseases that they spread. Making this legal, and thereby under medical control for the individual prostitute, STD's would not be spread as rapidly as they are now.
And that can only be a good thing.
Just my not-so-humble opinion.
I agree.
Yea but even if it is legalized, that doesn't mean prostitutes are going to start corporations and stuff like that, which makes it even possible for the government to keep an eye on them.
I can't see how it is safely negotiated sexual transactions. I am under the impression that often times it leads to violence and sexual abuse.
The problem is that when people think of prostitution they think of child sex trafficking and street walkers (which will probably still exist even if prostitution is legalized). The reality is that there are escort/client communities all over that provide venues for consenting adults to safely negotiated sexual transactions.
Also, since when is it going to let us control STDs? Prostitutes have multiple partners each and every day. When will making it legal help stop the spread?
No prostitution should not be legal. Like others said the spread of STDs would sky rocket. Not only that but would you really want to see some hooker walking down the street near a school when the kids are at the school playground? Not only would that be a disturbing sight but that could also become a bad role model for any kid to follow.
Yes. No more gold diggers.
My thinking is that, just like homosexuality, people have the right to pursue whatever fool sexual habits they want- I mean, beastiality might be going a bit OTT, but you know what I mean.
Being a Christian, the solution for things like prostitution is not legal villifying, but evangelization of the lost.
Evangelization of the lost?
Nah that would be great for kids, I wish i couldve seen that.
Flacco… just go home.
In the state of Nevada Prostitution has been legal for decades if not a century or so. They are licensed to exist in "houses of ill repute" like the famous "Mustang Ranch" that is located outside the city limits and all the girls have daily testing for STD's by qualified medical professionals. It is a rare occaision that one passes on an STD. That is what I meant by controlling STD's a little more better.
There will always be street walkers . . . and they should always be illegal . . . because the street walker is the one who passes on STD's the most.
Just my not-so-humble opinion.
Yea but if you make it completely legal, the number of street-walkers will increase, who will not be tested regularly for STDs.
Would YOU solicit sex from an illegal streetwalker if you could go legally to a brothel?
Get my drift?
Married men wouldn't go to a formal brothel.
In that case, they should get exactly what they deserve.
By getting married, you give your word to your bride that you will be faithful for your entire marriage . . . If you know that you will not – then do not get married!
And don't give me any lame excuses about having problems in marriage that can only be solved with a hooker!
Real men keep their word!
You go papadawg!
I've said it before and I'll say it again, papadawg is the man.
Legalizations of prostitution would definitely help control STD levels as many of the current frightened and pimp controlled prostitutes would be able to join legalized and controlled brothels where they would be regularly tested. Street walkers would get far less business if the opportunity to go to a clean legal brothel was open. Married men Jared, would definitely go to a brothel, they cans till pay in cash and not have their wives see it as a bank deduction. Furthermore, the taxes paid by established brothels would certainly help close state budget deficits. "Think of the children" you may say, but once again, this falls on the shoulders of responsible parents to EXPLAIN whats going on rather than just hiding it from a child and screaming at them when they go explore it for themselves…..
We should not be making illegal acts between concenting adults. the prohibition of prostitution is a moral imperitive, not a matter of rights as laws should be. Someone needs to explain how, if it were regulated and legal leaving the days of crime/violence/STD/drug additcs/etc.. in the prostitution business behind, a man paying a woman–or vica verca–for sex is actually "wrong". Just because you may not agree with it does not mean it should be banned.
This is another example of driving something underground due to religoius and moral reasons that turned into a black market run by criminals and awash with violance. Legalize it, tax it, make it safe for everyone, and move on!
I agree with you Pt447, you cannot make it illegal, and control someones life. If you are morally against it, feel free to evangelise, but taking away peoples freedoms is communist.
I'd rather the penalty applies to the men who frequent the street walkers rather than them, if we must have a legal penalty involved here (which I don't think there should be). It's not them that passes on STDs the most. It's still the men who carry it home or to the next prostitute.
You've obviously never read anything about prostitution economics then. Nor would it make sense for safely negotiated transactions to involve sex abuse and violence because this would diminish the likelihood of future transactions. High end prostitution has considerable reputation scoring and status involved such that men who are abusive, dangerous, or violent are penalized and removed from access through voluntary reporting (or are criminally prosecuted for their behaviors).
Isn’t it? Just go to a “massage” place. Everybody knows what kind of “massages” are given there.
