I really think it should. Instead of having all these criminal organizations feeding off sports gambling, why not take it away from them and legalize it?
Institutions themselves already have strong incentives to control against gambling internally, such as by banning players and punishing organisations that are involved for the purposes of providing a good entertainment product and an appearance of fairness.
I see no reason why this penalty should extend to fans however. More over, we already do it anyway. Billions of dollars are spent in private pools and actual gambling over things like the Super Bowl and the Final Four.
Insurance, Social Security, casinos, stock market.
All of these are gambling and essentially the same concept as sports gambling.
Insurance as an industry from our end is more or less like gambling, but it isn't for the company who sells it because they are aggregating risk to offer it to us. Stock market more or less works the same way if you are set up well for investment or long term savings by aggregating and hedging risk. It's only more like gambling if you're a day trader or trying to time market entry or exit or involved in a lot of complex derivative trading somehow or other.
OISA is actually more like a ponzi scheme than "gambling" (medicare is definitely a ponzi, OISA is only sort of like one since there's still a decent percentage of the money going out to the person that paid it).
I'm not sure that you actually disagreed with me, for once. Though I'm not sure what point you were trying to bring up as a supporting logic either. The most sensible analogy that is legal in most jurisdictions are state run lotteries or those stupid scratch off cards.
If people can go to Las Vegas and gamble their entire life-savings, then why can't sports gambling be legal? Oh, I know why, because casinos are a corporation and they pay the state and the politicians and they wouldn't make any money off it.
i dont think it should be, theres no real big problems with it now. so yahh
