No because then they think they can walk all over us.
Sure, we negotiate with kidnappers so why not terrorists?
Since when do we negotiate with kidnappers? They pretend to meet their demands.
We should it will be great.
All the time, it works out well.
You can't negotiate with terrorists at all.
Yea, in the good USA, terrorists deserve to be tortured. Anyone who wants to take the lives of you and your family don't deserve to have rights. No negotiations.
I think torture is inhumane. Two wrongs don't make a right as much as I would like to get back at those people.
In the long run, torturing someone will not bring back loved ones that you have lost.
To answer the question as posed; NO.
That is my not-so-humble opinion.
If you can track them down and hold them in one place long enough to negotiate.
And then, of course, there’s the problem of whether or not the terrorists even WANT to negotiate. From what I’ve seen of terrorists, they’re often pretty one-track on the ideas, and they often have abstract principles at mind when they commit their acts of terrorism. Then again, sometimes their demands are simple- get out of our country/give up your hostage/stop attacking us. In cases like that, sure, why not?
Then, of course, ordinary procedures should be followed: If the terrorists go back on their negotiated end of the deal, the other party in the treaty/agreement has license to go after them. Everybody’s happy, yay.
I think that the goverment must destroy and kill all the terrorists!
Ever heard of the Geneva Conventions? If not, let me clue you in- POWs (which is what the terrorists are, since we're in a war, supposedly), are supposed to be treated in a certain way.
And as Sal said, two wrongs don't make a right.
There's the slight problem of finding all those terrorists first…which the government seems to have an extraordinary talent for either missing entirely or letting slip through their fingers…
You see theres a problem, as i explained in a different debate, terrorists believe in their religon that they must take over the world. This is called their “holy war” or “jihad”. Its right in their Koran, and true muslims will not negotiate, americans have attempted to do this with “apparent success”, but a week later the same radical islam leader is preaching the same anti-american propaganda.
Maybe if we left them alone and stopped being so darn arrogant, they'd leave us alone. They feel threatened because we have all their countries occupied, for goodness sake!
Good they should feel threatened, maybe you should wake up. These people want to kill YOU Liberty. They want YOU dead because YOU are not muslum. You don’t negotiate with your killer, you fight back if you have the means to.
Something tells me that you were beat up a lot in high school Liberty.
I'm homeschooled. And I'm currently only 15. Never been beat up in my life.
Anyway, if you were implying that I think I should 'negotiate' with the people who want to beat me up, sure. If it works. The thing is we haven't even tried to negotiate with them, not to my knowledge. We have been occupying their territory for the past fifty years at least, via military bases. That isn't conducive to a good relationship.
Furthermore, our current 'anti-terrorist crusades' haven't exactly gotten us much of anywhere. Osama bin Laden is still at large, the Taliban is still a problem…so what did we accomplish with this 'war' we've been fighting?
I’m 16, and I have been beat up, but I stood up for myself, and I got respect, no one tried anything again.
Also America currently has military bases in almost every country in the world, this was clearly not the reason for their reaction. Believe me Americans have attempted to negotiate, and for the third time I’ll say this, they thought they had successfully defused the situation, just like Winston Churchill thought he had appeased Hitler.
Yes I do believe that this has beneffited the United States. I think its beneficial when American bodies aren’t lying lifeless in the streets from terrorist attacks. Because believe me, if America hadn’t done anything their would’ve been mass murder.
That's my whole point about the bases. We've become an imperialistic society, one that sees nothing wrong with throwing our standing army around. Standing armies were not a staple of Revolutionary-war era politics simply for that reason!
But let's also face something else, Pusty- our wars have accomplished exactly zero. The people responsible for the 9/11 attacks are still at large. bin Laden has not been caught, and there is no indication he will be any time soon. SO what have we accomplished?
Yes I agree, America shouldn’t have bases all over the world. But I disagree that this was the reason for the attacks. If it were most of the countries in the world would’ve done similar things.
Liberty- Im not sure how much I can stress this. IF WE WERE NOT IN IRAQ THERE WOULD BE BOMBS EXPLODING IN THE STREETS, LIKE ISREAL. ok maybe not that bad, but you get the point. They can’t do that because they know that the U.S has a stranglehold on them. It will be interesting to see what will happen when Obama pulls out. And if something happens again, if Obama will have the guts to stand up for his homeland.
I'm kind of confused. You see, Iraq was, to my knowledge, actually pretty much minding its own business. We attacked them on faulty intelligence that they were developing WMDs. That doesn't sound like they were fixing to attack us.
Afghanistan, I could see. The Afghani government had known links to both the Taliban and al Qaeda. OK. We can say we were going after terrorist networks. But Iraq had no terrorist ties (which has been confirmed multiple times), and there were no WMDs. How can we justify throwing a sovereign country into chaos merely on our supposition of something we had no intel about?
Yes, you are confused because there are troops in Afganistan, and last time I checked we weren’t debating about where the fighting is taking place, even though i’m not sure why we are in Iraq either.
we can only trust the govrernment who is much more informed than we are. What do you suggest the reason is then?
right up until they get what they want.
well then,…
BANG!
that same "kidnapper" has turned into a murderer!
Care to elaborate.
oh, I understand, I thought you were commenting on something Liberty or I said.
Ugh terrorists are so stupid, they think theyre gona get something good when in the end they always end up blowing themselves up. Theres no point to being a terroist. I wander what they think after they die and they dont get those 50 virgins they were promised.
