This is a topic that has gained much controversy and debate ever since the war in Iraq started. Military recruiting in high schools.
Should the military recruit at high schools?

I am 100% against this. The government are just looking for weak prey to join the military. Why do you think they go towards high schools and not colleges? They know that high school kids are younger and not as intelligent as college students. These kids are too young to make decisions on their own.
I am fully against this.
Absolutely YES! Let's not forget that college students make the decision in HIGH SCHOOL as to what college they were going to attend. If they can make that decision in high school they can decide to try the military too, or whatever career they want. They need to know ALL of their options and since the military will actually help pay for college it gives the students who would not otherwise be able to afford it a chance to go. If the military can't recruit there no college or other industry should be able to either.
Yea, but what about the kids who are going through a rough time in high school with family and grade issues. Let's say they have the opportunity to go to college, but the military comes along and manipulates them.
What Jason said. Unfortunately, children who are in families that are suffering to combat employment or underemployment may find the military a good option so they can get higher education, provided they aren't killed in combat. That's the sad fact when one joins the military–they must go to war and put themselves in harm's way.
The image in my head about military recruiting in high school is akin to vultures ready to pounce on innocent prey.
Lori, I don't mean to be contrary. I honor your opinion. Jason, this a great blog. It's amazing how a simple question can generate so much thought. I'm glad you stopped by.
Jason's response?
No, they shouldn't. High school is a very complicated atmosphere. All you know is that you have to do well and go off to college. I think it's too young for individuals to be making decisions about fighting overseas. It's just a way for the government to get confused, young men/women to fight for them.
I don't like it, because this is a snake-move by the government.
You do know that they recruit at colleges also, right?
Yea but they by the time you go to college, you are more mature.
I agree!
I think the military would probably do some of these kids some good. Teach them a marketable trade. Give them some life experiences. Then give them the funding they need to better educate themselves.
And on top of that. being a member of our armed forces is an honor despite what some people might think about our men and women in uniform.
That's right, they should be able to recruit at any educational institution or industry. They need to stay away from our babies, who haven't even really lived yet.
