Your children need parental consent to enlist until age 18. The military offers one possibility just like teaching does. Serving your country is an honorable thing. Anyone can ring your doorbell. Anyone can offer employment to your children. Serving in the coast gaurd while being a certified electrician is a good solid career path. The military only takes the fit.

I am 17 and i joined my state's Army National Guard 16 days after my birthday on November 30. I have actually improved in school and my attitude in school has gotten better. I say yes they should be allowed to recruit at high schools because, no one ever enlists on just a whim and the military is very hard to get into. You have to get above a 40 on the ASVAB just to get looked at, plus only about three percent actually pass the ASVAB then only about two percent of that makes it out of MEPS, and only one percent of the U.S. population of 308,745,538 people serve in the military so they are not praying on weak. plus the high schooler cannot join without BOTH parents signatures until they turn 18 so either way it has nothing to do with "preying" on children.

(sorry, I write a lot)
I chose to apply to a military academy at the age of fifteen, and went through the rigorous process of applying all junior and senior year. I agree, not everyone thinks that far ahead. And maybe they might want to get out after two years. Oh well. You signed a contract. It'll be over eventually, every thing is. And think of it this way: it's a job. In America's predicament of an economy right now, the military is the most solid career you can have.
Also, what is JROTC in High Schools but another way to recruit? And what does it do? It inspires its students to do well in school, do their best in everything, and help the community. This coming from a non JROTC high school grad.
These are only a few of many comments I have on the matter, but seeing as I am a proud member of the US military, my opinion is biased. I'd be happy to hear your opinion.

I am a freshman at the Air Force Academy, and personally, I do think recruiters should be allowed in high schools.
The military provides a viable alternative for students who are not able to make it into a four year university, and are likely to be working at McDonalds for a majority of their life. True, the profession of the military is to "kill," but the reason we do that is to "assure the survival and success of liberty," to quote JKF. How can we do that, if there is no Army, Navy, Air Force, etc? True, when I graduate I will not be in the same boat as a high school student who enlisted, but several of my current classmates are priors, (prior enlisted right out of hs) and they loved it. The military is not for everybody, but those are the ones who decline the offer to raise their hand and pledge to protect the constitution, and there is no shame in that. Rectuiters do not "use heavy handed tactics that violate the students' right to privacy." Sure they call your house, but don't telemarketers do that? It is a legal way to contact you.

That's right, they should be able to recruit at any educational institution or industry. They need to stay away from our babies, who haven't even really lived yet.

I agree!

I think the military would probably do some of these kids some good. Teach them a marketable trade. Give them some life experiences. Then give them the funding they need to better educate themselves.

And on top of that. being a member of our armed forces is an honor despite what some people might think about our men and women in uniform.
