No because then their government can be over-run by terrorists, who would then have control of a very respectable collection of nuclear weapons.
NO!
Not because of Sal's flawed reasoning, but because the Pakistani's have proven that they can handle their own country along with their sizable nuclear arsenal. Even though we Americans may not like their political processes, we have no business or reason to invade them – they have become an independent nation with Islam as their central religion but have not turned into an Islamic Theocracy and I do not see that ever happening anytime in the foreseeable future.
Just my not-so-humble opinion. B)
That would be a bad idea. Firstly, there's no way we could do this now. Next, ti would be a PR disaster. And lastly, Why? There's really nothing to be gained by it.
Handling their own country by supporting terrorism for their own security?
They are stuck between India and Afghanistan. What does that mean to this topic?
Well, geography is everything. Pakistan has been fighting with India for around 60 years now, so if they have these terrorists in the northern area that will give them an edge and protection from India.
Once the United States and the rest of the European armies leave Afghanistan, which will happen sooner rather than later, in the worst case scenario the country will be overrun by terrorists as well. That would leave Pakistan in the middle.
A friend of mine who is Indian was talking about this to me yesterday. He said that the problem with these suicide-bombers, they are being developed towards the end of Pakistan. You see where it says Chaman. Those cities near that border are the problem. They are the root of the problem and that's what needs to be taken care of. That's why Afghanistan is involved in this, because these idiots are being developed near the edge of Pakistan right next to Afghanistan.
Correct. When the United States invaded Afghanistan, those that were left of the Taliban, including Bin Laden left and entered northern Pakistan through the Khyber.
The Northern areas of Pakistan is not even regulated or patrolled by the Pakistani Government. The environment is way too mountainous, harsh, and basically inhabitable.
Personally I believe Afghanistan is lost. Yes we can win there militarily, but in the long run I don't think we can stabilize the nation. Its not operated by a central government. Tribes have control over random areas. Plus these people do not know anything except farming,
Unlike Iraq, which has a built up society and is currently somewhat stabilized, Afghanistan's people are nowhere near as willing as the Iraqis to fight against their enemies.
If you thought the Iraqis were ungrateful, just imagine the farmers in Afghanistan. They just do not care. It's sad but true.
