If they could meet the standards, sure. No special or limited standards though, has to match a man's requirements.
yep. And I think they should have integrated facilities if the woman is in a combat unit. You can't squat in the woman's only bush on patrol.
They already have integrated facilities. Front and rear. But seriously though, I think that men and woman in a combat setting would greatly enhance a man's ability to work in the bush.
Not in a combat unit, sorry but there are too many issues involved that do not need to be dealt with in the battle zone. Women and men are not the same, sorry, but we have differences and sometimes, just sometimes they matter.
yes they should at all levels in all situations…whos to say a man can handle something better than i can?
Noone is saying a woman can't handle a battle situation better than a man. Here's the problem, and papadawg will agree with me I'm sure.
Charlie company is in the jungle fighting. They have 5 women in their battle ready devil-dog fighting company. Opps… they all got captured by the Taliban, or the VC, or whoever we're fighting.
Now, the enemy wants positions, numbers, armament of the other companies in the area… What do they do? Line up all them men and make them watch as they torture the female members of the company. Guess what, 5 minutes into it you've got plenty of guys willing to tell them anything they want to know in order to protect their female servicemen.
It's not that women are incapable, they are a liability to men's overriding feeling of protectiveness.
If that offends? well that too bad I guess.
Women can have any job in the US military these days except forward battle combatants, and crew members on Naval submarines. Find another area of the military you yearn to contribute to.
hmm i never thought of it that way…good point. and well explained…wouldn't they have the same feeling of protectiveness over anybody in their company? just wondering
yes and no. Forward battle combatants are trained to keep information to themselves. And many brave men did while under torture in Hanoi. But when confronted with the scenario an overwhelming number of men said they would crack and tell the enemy what they wanted to know if a female was being tortured/raped in their presence.
It used to be a problem and now its not anymore so whats the big deal? Women know how to fight dont they?
