I think it was. I mean I wasn't around during the '70s and 80's, but I think it was hyped by the media, which is pretty much all they do.
Every year at halloween there is a scare of some sort because some nutcase always tries to do in children. When I was a kid we had some nutcase in our neighborhood put razor-blade fragments into apples. I think he is still in prison . . .
It is just that parents need to be proactive with their children – that means to be involved in what your children are doing – especially around the holidays.
Just my not-so-humble opinion. B)
It does not take much to take your child trick-or-treating.
