Not a bad speech in general, however I believe it should have been given much sooner, as well as focused more on stopping the flow of oil now, rather than talking about the future of energy with no real plan. The fact of the matter is the oil is still flowing out nearly 60 days later.
It wasn't a bad speech, Although as a non-believer and someone who knows that the limitations for energy independence rest largely on as-of-yet undiscovered battery technology, it wasn't as inspiring or as hopeful as I'm sure the desired effect was meant to be.
Also, I would REALLY have liked to hear some actual plans listed (use of our coal reserves, expanding nuclear power, more spending in R&D for solar, something, anything.) I guess it's like a lot of other Obama speeches where I just want him to formulate a plan and then try and sell it with good arguments and reasoning. Instead we get the, "Hey we need a plan, send me ideas!" kind of speech like this and it makes me think that one of three things is true:
!) President Obama hasn't yet looked into the issues enough to formulate a plan.
2) He has done his research, but there is no good solution, so he's hoping somebody else has an idea.
3) He has a plan, but he's not willing to come out and say exactly what it is to the American people.
Am I just being overly critical here? Is there something I'm not seeing?
I agree with you on the fact that it was long overdue.
I think you're right on the money kidd.
