What should be done?
Since our President and currant members of Congress are now counting on the Communist Chinese government to continue "buying" into our national debt with trillions of Yuan loans, what makes you think that anyone in our government is worried about Human Rights violations by those who will dictate to our country what we will be doing by the year 2015?
The Communist Chinese government could care less about what other people think, just like those we have elected to our current House and Senate along with the POTUS, therefore your question serves no other purpose than to appease the billions of sheeple out there and make them think that the Communists actually care about Human Rights when they have always cared less.
FYI – The architect of the Communist regime in China was Mao Tse Tung. Over one hundred million Chinese people were slaughtered during his reign as Chairman of the Chinese Communist Party. Since his death, only the names have changed . . . all else remains the same.
Just my not-so-humble opinion. B)
I don't think anyone believes they care about human rights. To me the question means whether or not people should or can even interfere with these practices.
To me, it does not look like we as Americans can even do anything as of right now.
But don't you think when there are blatant human rights violations in this world something should be done about it, papadawg?
America can't do anything. Now if the UN wants to get involved, I guess that's their business. But I doubt the CCP will listen.
We were actually talking about this in my political science class today. By them denying people the right to access information on the internet all by itself is a violation of human rights. The United States has to step in and do something about this.
Why does the US 'have' to step in and do anything? We're not Chinese, and in the end, the Chinese people are the ones in control of their own fate.
Sal,
We as a people, way back in 1776 decided we would do something about our own situation. I also remember that a few short years ago a few Chinese students staged a protest in Tienanmen Square in Beijing that was put down with Chinese army tanks. The Intel that I have been able to see estimates that over ten thousand people have been either imprisoned or executed over that "little" protest.
Only the Chinese people can improve their situation. No one from outside China can do anything about it. It is simple as this; Unless the Chinese people are willing to sacrifice and fight or die for their own liberty, then they will forever be enslaved by one form of oppressive governance or another.
Those are the sad facts of life.
What power do we have that we could use or influence that we supposedly possess that would override the governing interests of a powerful sovereign state with considerable influence in the global community?
Reverse the question, if you were China, how would you get Americans to stop bothering you about your internal suppression of human rights? As a hint, the answer is not stop suppressing human rights.
