Why do some countries filter search results?

Sure I know why. Countries like China and North Korea are trying to deprive their citizens of learning more about freedom. I wonder why?
I agree with you again, Jared, however . . . keep your eye out for internet censorship by the Obama administration in the near future – Don't even say he won't, because that is exactly what he said he was going to do. The video of that speech is on youtube (search Obama campaign speeches and you will find it).

He never said he was going to filter search results. He has the power, however, to shut the Internet down for security purposes. There's no way he can. Businesses control government and the Internet is run by businesses.
The Obama-Bush takeover of Wall Street banking consortium's seems to have happened under your nose without you even knowing about it? Either that or you are just ignoring "TARP" and "Stimulus #1" and have no knowledge at all of "Stimulus #2" (that one is at the House in committee right now), so let me inform you of what the MSM is talking about how your good buddy Obama is saying that we will need a third and possibly a fourth "Stimulus Package" . . . If you are surprised about all this, it will comfort you to know that I am not.
So, my young friend, with all that bailing out going on . . . . would you be surprised to find out that our government is actually involved in a slow but sure systematic takeover of the American big business community? The same big business community that controls the Internet.
I would suggest a daily read of The Wall Street Journal. It is rather informative. And somewhat educational, to boot. :S
