Because a lot of people want to keep the tradition alive. There's no such thing as the Jersey Devil, but it's been around for hundreds of years to drive suspicion and curiousity. It brings people closer together in some weird way.

I once saw a bumper sticker on a police car in Los Angeles, it read; "I see stupid people!" . . .
I do believe that is a very true statement that will always apply, especially to those who foment and believe in things that sound too good to be true and usually are (Barack Obama's "Change we all can believe in" is one example) and those infamous and irritating urban legends.
P.S. – I threw that Obama thing in there just for Jared. :p

The fact of the matter is what is unknown to people in this world will always get the most interest, we fiend over things that we do not know and things that we cannot control. Humans are yearning for explanations and of other things that may exist with us.
Thats right. The memories of the Titanic sinking just wont go away. People are interested in the unknown and they will search and search until they find what they are looking for. Some people think that there was a great treasure on the Titanic or someother very valuble items.
