Well, in my opinion, it's up to the mother whether or not she wants to have a baby. She's the one who will have to take the time out and go through all the suffering to deliver. We have no right to tell her what she should do. No one.
So, in essence, if the mother is willing to also contribute to stem cell research, we have no right to tell her she shouldn't either. Yes. It will be accepted by society. The Catholic Church just needs to shut their mouths and let progress by made in medicine.
Uh, Jared, the question is about embryonic stem cell research – not about abortion as your statement seems to be about.
The problem lies in the absolute scientific fact that there has been no – let me repeat this for you NO – medical gains from embryonic stem cell research vs adult stem cell research.
There have been some promise from umbilical chord stem cell research and adult stem cell research, but not the great leaps and bounds that the proponents of this type of research have claimed there would be.
I personally know a man who has benefited from adult stem cell therapy. He has leukemia and he is currently in remission due to that adult stem cell therapy. He told me that the people at the Mayo clinic where he has received virtually all of his treatments told him that there were no known benefits from embryonic stem cell therapy for his type of cancer. Yes, for all of you out there who do not know this, Leukemia is actually a type of cancer.
Don't embryonic stem cells come from early abortions pretty much?
Nope. Late term abortions. It is a sick thing to murder one human being just to do research that has proven to not have any merit.
Joseph Mengele would be proud of you . . .
While your statement is mostly true, it also only because of the ban we have had on embryonic stem cell research. Adult stem cells harvested from marrow, brain enzymes, and stomach linings are excellent in their ability to to mimic muscles and neurones. However, adult stem cells are not pluripotent, meaning they cannot be directed to form ANY type of cell. This difference means that adult stem cells are unable to help us in the fields of regenerative medicine and gene theray, i.e. Parkinson's disease, Cystic Fibrosis, Alzheimers.
Embryonic stem cell research will be accepted at some point yes. I doubt though that any of us will be around to see it. This is an issue that most of my generation, and pretty much ALL of my parents generations are dead set against. My opinion is that future generations will have less ethical and emotional ties to the unborn than many of us have today.
IVF clinics as I understand it account for a fair percentage.
They do not depend upon abortions, which would be a trivial amount of embryos. Much less late term abortions, which would be a very trivial amount.
I actually just read an article that stated adult stem cells have been making more progress than embryonic stem cells.
I understand that Jared, but if you had actually read my comment you would realize that my point is: Considering embryonic stem cell research is banned in America it is not surprising that few innovations have currently come from it.
