I do not think so. More stalling is taking place now, as the government does not have the money to buy the prison in Illinois to transfer the prisoners.
They don't need the money, they can just borrow it and put us further into debt.
There is no point in moving these prisoners inside the United States. I think we should just leave them where they are!
At Gitmo they are under military war law, move them here then they are under civilian law – including all the rights and privileges afforded U.S. citizens.
Not a good thing since these folks were picked up in foreign countries trying to kill American combat troops.
This is why our apologetic POTUS wants to bring them here – to show our enemies just how appeasing and apologetic he really is.
It sickens me to think that we actually bought his rhetoric hook, line, and sinker. What a national embarrassment this POTUS has turned out to be!
Just my not-so-humble opinion. B)
"WE?!?!?" We nothing. I didn't vote for that liberal communist scumbag!
Otter, when GWB was POTUS I seen a lot of T-shirts with his photo on them with the caption "Not MY President!" . . . Unfortunately, the POTUS is president of all the U.S., and contrary to the Liberal thought process if a conservative is POTUS of all the U.S. so is a Liberal POTUS.
Wether we like to admit it or not, that is just the way it is. That is the way a Constitutional Republic works(which is what our founders gave us – not a Democracy . . . two distinctively different political ideologies and forms of governance).
Oh, I'm not arguing that he is the POTUS. I'm just pointing out that fact that I, personally, was NOT one of the people that "bought his rhetoric hook, line, and sinker"
I never bought into anything he said. Never trusted him. Never will. He might be the President but he is still scum IMHO.
Probably not- though having them in Gitmo has its own drawbacks. Gitmo is under no sanctions, not even the President fully knows what goes on there. That is not good, or right. There should be more oversight of it, just to make sure we're not doing things we'd regret.
I do not think we can put these men under civilian law, mostly because they were not read their Miranda rights at the time of their arrests- mainly because many of them were arrested by Pakistani, Egyptian, and Saudi forces, not American.
I do think though that they should have access to some sort of legal counsel, as well as have open trials by military officials, with transparency so we can be sure these men are given fair trials. Basic human decency demands we do that much.
But Obama promises yo.
Since we basically live in Nazi Germany, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised. Most of the prisoners are probably not even guilty of anything.
