Wrong socialist country to be even thinking that its government is in jeopardy.
At least there's documented revolts in Iran against military and religious dictatorship and control over the economic sector (in addition to the more obvious political repression), even if they are not amounting to anything.
There's a point where dictatorship makes terms like 'socialism' and 'feudalism' look very much the same. North Korea is so tightly controlled that I doubt anything short of kim jong il's death…. well hold on there….
Naw, they love their dictators over there.
Just my not-so-humble opinion. B)
Sooner or later some citizens will hold a rebellion or something.
With what?
Put it this way. The CCCP and the PRC both liberalized their economies or broke up entirely by selecting through their internal governmental process a reformer. China's reformation had very little to do with Tienanmen Square and "Tank Guy", that was, in effect, an outcome of its reforms. Same deal with the rise of the Solidarity movement in the Soviet bloc breaking up control over Poland and Czechoslovakia. This was an outcome or a sign of ongoing reform, not the beginnings of an effective rebellion against the authorities.
I don't see North Korea doing anything remotely liberalizing for its economic controls, in part because it is far more centralized than China or Russia ever were through what amounts to a ruling mob family controlling everything. So I don't expect to see them reform or fall anytime soon.
I think the question is a bit too vague. What does the questioner mean by fall? If the question is will North Korea eventually go through a period of reforms both economic and social so that the country is less of a controlled state with an "iron man" ruler? I don't think it will unless there is a better deal out there for those in power. I agree with Sun Tzu's above comment that the break up of the Soviet Union and slow reform of China had been in the works for years. Don't forget that the South Koreans espcially would rather not see the North's government fall. If it did, and reunifaction of the peninsula was considered the costs to do so would be staggering, somethingthe south is not interested in.
I think it will fail, they are to secerative about their country and they dont let in tourists so theres no tourism and eventually they will run out of money, they are already at the point where they can only feed their citizens twice a day. Theyre digging their own grave.
